A hair-dryer kid in a toaster-brained world

Even after 21 years of being Dude’s sister, I sometimes struggle with finding the right words to describe autism to friends and acquaintances. I’ve basically whittled my short response down to:

“It’s a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects communication and socialization skills to varying degrees.”

That doesn’t really paint a clear picture, now does it?

I tend to shy away from analogies because I’m not creative enough to come up with them. Luckily for me (and you), a mom blogger developed a beautifully simplistic analogy that gets at the heart of autism.

And that is why you have to read, “A hair-dryer kid in a toaster-brained world.”
